The November 1st start to the NBA season is currently in danger of being delayed if fighting between the players and team owners continue. Representatives are scheduled to meet twice this week and only days before training camps are likely to begin. The players were prepared to make concessions last Tuesday but negotiations fell through when the owners refused the union’s insistence to keep the old salary cap system intact. The lockout began despite the players’ proposal of lowering their share of revenues to 54.3 percent. The last collective bargaining agreement expired June 30. Football scores
In the meantime, Danilo Gallinari has agreed to play for his former Italian team, Olimpia Milano for the duration of the lockout. The team’s coach guided Spain to the European Championship in Lithuania last Sunday. Gallinari will also join fellow Italy squad teammates and NBA players Andrea Bargnani and Marco Belinelli. Gallinari played for Olimpia for three years before being drafted by the Knicks in 2008 and later traded to the Nuggets earlier this year. Other Nuggets’ players also currently play in foreign teams. Ty Lawson will play in Lithuania and J.R. Smith and Wilson Chandler are set to play in China. Baseball scores
Rudy Fernandez of the Mavericks has agreed to play for Real Madrid’s basketball team for the duration of the lockout. The deal also guarantees Fernandez a spot on the team after his NBA contract expires. Real Madrid earlier this year was prepared to make an offer of 4.3 million dollars per season and the highest paid player in the Spanish league. The offer currently tops his expired salary cap of 2.2 million. Fernandez has had an average of 8.6 points for the past two seasons and has a 32.1 percent from the 3-point range. It is not expected to be detrimental to the Mavs if Fernandez chooses not to return. Basketball scores
