“JAY’S ROOKIE OUT FOR THE SEASON”
Fri, 23 Sep 2011 01:54 PM EDT

Brett Lawrie of the Blue Jays has broken his right middle finger and will miss the rest of the season. The 21-year-old rookie was injured during practice before Toronto played the Angels on Wednesday night. Lawrie got off to a solid start after being called up for his debut on August 5th. He was hitting .293 with nine homers and 25 RBIs in 43 games. It is the second non-displaced fracture he has had this year. He was about to be called up from Class AAA Las Vegas when his left hand was fractured on May 31st. He did not reach the majors until August 5th. Edwin Encarnacion had taken his place at third base.                 Mark Lowe also suffered an injury during pre-game workout. Lowe strained his left hamstring and will be sent back to Texas for further examination; he’s expected to have an MRI. Lowe, 2-3 with a 3.80 ERA in 52 appearances, has pitched more for the Rangers this year than any of the others. That would leave the club to pick two relievers from this group of four right-handers: Lowe, Yoshinori Tateyama, Koji Uehara and Scott Feldman. Triple Crown Betting

On Sunday, Uehara entered a bases-loaded situation at Seattle and got the final out of an inning. On Wednesday, he pitched a 1-2-3 seventh and got the win after Ian Kinsler and Josh Hamilton hit homers in the eighth. Tateyama has not pitched in 12 days since giving up a grand slam to Oakland. Feldman would likely only be taken if the Rangers decide they need a multi-inning reliever as a backup for the starters. Another Rangers’ player is down; Michael Gonzalez also flew home Thursday because of an illness. The team didn’t consider his bug to be anything serious. Gonzalez is 2-2 with one save and a 4.38 ERA in 54 outings. Kentucky Derby Betting
