Scott Verplank will be out for five months due to his decision to have surgery on his left wrist last Friday. This comes after two years of not knowing when he would ever play again. It was only a month ago since he was back with a competitive spirit on the back nine of the PGA Championship until his tee shot barely fell short on the 17th green and led to a double bogey. For the past two years he’s reported to have a wrist strong enough to play for only a few weeks at a time. Football lines
Out of 15 tournaments he’s had to withdraw three times and failed to qualify three other times. In the Houston Open he was able go down the stretch with Phil Mickelson and finish as runner-up with all four rounds in the 60’s at the Greenbrier Classic. He tied for fourth at the PGA. Verplank ended his season with a withdrawal from the Deutsche Bank Championship after the first round. Verplank, at age 47, says he expects a four or five good years in the professional golf. In Women’s golf, Lexi Thompson withdrew from the second stage of LPGA Q-School; stating to have no interest playing on the men’s tour while claiming playing full-time women’s golf as challenging enough. Thompson has a lot of achievements under her belt. In 2007, she became the youngest to qualify for the U.S. Open, at age 12. Last Sunday, she became the youngest woman to win a multiple round tournament by two years, at the age of 16. She beat out Tiffany Joh by five strokes to finish at 17 –under-217. She has petitioned for an age exemption for LPGA Tour membership. Basketball odds
