The San Francisco 49ers were able to redeem themselves from their 1-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. Though the team could have panicked when running back Frank Gore broke his hip, they instead seized the opportunity to give old-timer Brian Westbrook a go at things. That definitely proved to be a wise move. Having been let go by Philadelphia after eight strong seasons, he was signed to the 49ers shortly after. While he hasn’t had much time to play since then, now appears to be his time. Westbrook came through with 23 rush, 136 yards and one touchdown to help his team hand the Cardinals their sixth straight loss. The game came to a close at 27-6 after regulation time. With this win, San Francisco now stands in third place of the NCF West with a 4-7 record. Though the passing game and special teams were nothing to rave about, the 49ers did shine through on other points. They ran for 261 rushing yards, which is not only their season high, but also the most yards that the Cardinals have allowed against them this season. Troy Smith ended the game as game leader in passing with 11 of 23 for 129 yards. This player has certainly pulled his team up in the standings since becoming starting QB. Michael Crabtree teamed up with Smith for a touchdown late in the game. He also was good for 2-48 rec. Football odds. However, the real talk of the day was about Brian Westbrook. Stepping in to replace Gore with a broken hip, he ran 23 times in his 21st career 100-yard game. It will be interesting to see how far he can take his team with the time he has while replacing Gore.

The Cardinals were crushed in this match-up in what was perhaps their worst performance of the season. The team continues to repeat the same errors that have done them in all year long. Not only did they allow season-high rushing yards against themselves, they also had a lousy 203 yards of offense. This was the team’s sixth loss in a row, which sent them to a discouraging 3-8 record to sit at the bottom of the NFC West this season.
