8TH-SEEDED GRIZZLIES CONTINUE THEIR HEROIC RUN
Mon, 09 May 2011 01:20 PM EDT

Zach Randolph led the way (one more time) and had 21 points and a franchise-record 21 boards, and the Grizzlies rallied from a 16-point deficit to shock the Oklahoma City Thunder 101-93 in OT Saturday. With this victory the Grizzlies took a 2-1 lead in their Western Conference semifinal. The silent Tony Allen made a huge contribution to help his team take the victory. He may not have the numbers to show off or brag about his achievements but the Grizzlies’ determined lock-down guard put his trademark all over this Memphis team. His defensive game was more than solid to his team. Basketball scores.

Now, the Grizzlies are in the right path to achieve something no NBA team has done in climbing from the No. 8 seed all the way to the Western Conference finals. They are half-way from that by remaining unbeaten on their home court this playoffs.

During over-time, Kevin Durant, the NBA’s scoring leader in the regular season and also in this postseason, took only three shots and missed them all. “This is a tough loss,” Durant said. Russell Westbrook scored 23 points and dished out 12 dimes, but committed five turnovers that were crucial during the game. Serge Ibaka finished with 14 points and James Harden contributed with twelve.

On Memphis’ side O.J. Mayo ended up with 18 points off the bench. Conley also scored 18, Marc Gasol had 16 and Tony Allen 10.

The Grizzlies were behind during almost the entire game but they had an amazing comeback. Nevertheless, Memphis took over in the extra period to fix things. First, Allen drove for a layup, and then Conley scored on another easy basket. Allen then hit two free throws for a 92-86 lead with less than 3 minutes left to start sealing the victory. The Grizzlies polished the win off at the free throw line. Basketball odds.

Hollins went with Shane Battier, Allen, Mayo, Conley and Darrell Arthur for a stretch with Randolph and Gasol on the bench. “Our guards took that challenge and were just aggressive,” Mayo said. Now, Memphis and OKC will square off in Game 4, which will be a decisive encounter towards the Western Conference finals. Basketball spreads.
