In perhaps one of the closest games in playoff history, the New York Jets beat the Indianapolis Colts 17-16 this past Saturday. Although the Jets didn’t get started until the second half, they quickly rallied to win and move forward into the postseason. The Colts thought they had it with Adam Vinatieri’s 50-yard field go, but they made the mistake of leaving 53 seconds on the board for New York. That was apparently all they needed. The Jets’ last-second field goal stung as it went over the crossbar and through the uprights to send the Colts home. It certainly proved to be an enticing Wild Card game. Vegas odds.
The win avenged the loss year’s AFC championship game, and at the same time improved their record to 12-5. QB Mark Sanchez was 18 of 31 for 189 yards and one interception. Luckily, his previously troubled shoulder did not stop him or even seem to bother him in this match-up. Stunning RB LaDainian Tomlinson contributed two scores and carried the ball 16 times for 82 yards, including a 23-yard off-right tackle which turned out to be the game’s longest running play. Braylon Edwards also stood out with his four catches for 62 yards, and was targeted five times. One of his catches included an 18-yard grab along the sideline that set up Nick Folk’s game-winning, 32-yard field goal. The team finally made coach Rex Ryan’s dream of beating Manning and crew come true. The team will now move on the face the Patriots this week. Betting lines.
Indianapolis did right in just about every aspect of the game, but took a narrow loss in the end. The only big mistake they made was giving up a 47-yard kick-off return in the last minutes of the fourth. That mistake was costly, as it set-up the Jet’s winning play. When all was said and done, one point made all the difference. The Colts now head home and into the offseason with a 10-7 record.
