AMARE STOUDEMIRE SUFFERED A HAND CUT
Thu, 03 May 2012 03:42 AM EDT

A frustrated Amare Stoudemire punched a glass casing surrounding a fire extinguisher a few minutes after the New York Knicks’ loss to the Miami Heat, according to a team source. The Knicks power forward suffered tears on his left hand which needed stitches.

A league source claimed that Stoudemire is “virtually certain” to miss Game three on Thursday in N.Y and there is a possibility that Stoudemire could miss the remainder of the series. Baseball betting lines

Stoudemire was treated by ambulance crews and team doctors from both the Knicks and the Heat and was seen leaving the arena with his left forearm and hand heavily bandaged and his arm being supported by a sling. He suffered the wound on the inside of his palm, on the side of his hand nearest to the pinkie. Baseball lines

Stoudemire hasn’t undergone any MRIs or X-rays and the team provided no further update on the extent of the injury.

He punched the glass casing after walking off of the court following the Knicks’ 104-94 loss to the Heat.

“He was just annoyed,” a league source with awareness of the situation said.

Stoudemire’s disappointment could have originated from his shot attempts -9- in Monday’s game, according to the source. He scored eighteen points and had 7 rebounds.

Stoudemire addressed the situation via his social account.

“I am so angry at myself right now,” read a post on Stoudemire’s verified account. “I wish to apologize to the followers and my team, not pleased with my actions, headed home for a new start.”

A later post read: “We all have done thing out of anger that we regret. That makes us human, bad timing on my part. Sorry guys, this shall pass.”

Knicks center Tyson Chandler said: “He’s probably going to be out. I’m not sure how tough it is. … Your feelings run high. In a split 2nd, a decision can change things. You cannot blame anyone. We’ve got to deal with the consequences.”

Carmelo Anthony didn’t want to comment the event after the game.

“I have no idea what happened,” Anthony asserted, adding, “I really have no idea where his scenario is at. I don’t know.”

Stoudemire will travel back to New York with the team.

Knicks interim coach Mike Woodson wouldn’t elaborate on the event.

“How severe it is I don’t know. I’m trying to find out more about it. That is it. Let’s talk about the game,” Woodson related.

The Knicks trail the Heat 2-0 in the best-of-7 series.

This is the 2nd straight postseason in which Stoudemire suffered a self-inflicted injury. Last April, Stoudemire pulled a muscle in his back while attempting a dunk in warm-ups prior to Game 2 versus the Boston Celtics. He was limited by the injury for what’s left of the series, that the Knicks lost in 4 straight.

New York’s probabilities might not be as spoilt by Stoudemire’s absence as one might think. For a start, Stoudemire missed 19 games during the regular season, and the team went 14-5 during that stretch. Both Carmelo Anthony’s numbers and the team’s effectiveness as a whole were particularly better when Stoudemire was not in the Knicks’ lineup.
