AN ODD RIVALRY: BOBCATS VS. BULLS
Tue, 18 Jan 2011 11:23 AM EST

It looks as if the Charlotte Bobcats have a special knack for beating the Chicago Bulls this season. For the second time in one week, Charlotte managed a close win over Chicago for the second time in only one week. The first time was at home, but this time they beat the Bulls on their own turf with a narrow 83-83 victory. The win snapped the Bobcats three-game losing streak coming into the game. The lead was handed back and forth a number of times, but it all came down to a jumper, a pair of free throws and a missed shot in the last minute. Though no one is quite sure why Charlotte gives Chicago such a hard time, maybe Gerald Wallace opinion is right, “We’re just as athletic as they are.” Odds.

Each Bobcat did his part to help take the game. The played smart, taking advantage of Carlos Boozer’s absence.  D.J. Augustin came through with 15 points, while Boris Diaw and Stephen Jackson added 12 points each. Player of the game Gerald Wallace contributed 13 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assist for a double-double, and made a critical slam dunk at the close of the game. Former Bulls player Tyrus Thomas was good for 8 points, 4 rebounds and an important block in his return Tuesday night after serving a suspension for elbowing New Orleans’ Emeka Okafor in the head on Monday. It seems Charlotte as a whole has continued to improve since Paul Silas replaced Larry Brown for coach on December 22nd. Scores.

“We’re missing some key players, but we still could have won this game,” was Derrick Rose’s take on the game. The absence of Boozer, Chicago’s second leader in scoring [20.1 points per game] and rebounds [10.1], and Joakim Noah was certainly felt. Although Rose gave 33 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assist, he also missed a shot at the buzzer that would have sent the game into overtime to net a possible win for the Bulls. The loss brought an end to a previous three game-winning streak, and moved Chicago to a 28-14 record.
