The list of major champions from the small country of Northern Ireland just keeps growing and the list certainly wouldn’t be complete without the great Daren Clarke who won the British Open. Now while he does not have that superman swing like Roy McIlroy or even the putting abilities of Graeme McDowell the previous two champs of the U.S. Open he does have some really good playing strategy. Having said that Darren Clark has not completed for the last decade and he wasn’t eligible to play in the previous three majors and is was no longer a part of the top 100 players of the world. The three shot win yesterday in the British Open was welcomed with a huge long applause from the crowed, with the loudest being heard during the closing ceremony when he was introduced as the champion of the year. This shows that Clarke is definitely a man of the people. Football betting lines
Clarke said with the claret jug in his hand “I’m a bit of a normal bloke, aren’t I?” “I like to go to the pub and have a pint, fly home, buy everybody a drink, just normal. There’s not many airs and graces about me. I was a little bit more difficult to deal with in my earlier years, and I’ve mellowed some. Just a little bit. But I’m just a normal guy playing golf, having a bit of fun.”
Clarke said after the game “Pretty amazing right now,” “It’s been a dream since I’ve been a kid to win the Open, like any kid’s dream is, and I’m able to do it, which just feels incredible.”
The weather it seemed had plans of its own and quickly switched from heavy rains to sunshine and then back again to some more heavy rain in the afternoon and some really strong winds. Clarke managed to play through all this and never allowed himself to think what it would feel to hold the jug until he reached the 18th green. At this point it was clear that he would be the winner despite the fact that he still had some playing to do to rise up on the leader board which he of course did and popped up as the winner.
