The Arizona Diamondbacks are not in a good place this season. They have had some very difficult games, the most recent against the San Fran Giants. Thursday was a great day for the Giants as they took Arizona in a 3-0 shutout, all led by some stellar pitching. Cain has pitched 17 scoreless innings against Arizona this season.
The game was settled from the mound. Matt Cain had all four pitches working, he was tearing it up, making guys strike out right and left, he is really on fire this year. The Giants have had a great season, they are doing very well in their division, and have been very hard to defeat. They took this game against Arizona in Phoenix. Not even the heat could turn these guys off.
Cain pitched eight sharp innings, and had guys swinging at air all night long. Cain, combined with Brian Wilson, who pitched a perfect ninth for his 27th save in 29 chances, just dominated the D-Backs. The Giants lived up to their name, and stepped all over their opponents. Facing a team that was extremely battered after a 14-inning victory over the Mets, the Giants made quick work of Arizona.
The Diamondbacks were simply run down, they put every spare second of energy into the 14 innings they plaid the night before, and thus, were completely exhausted. The Diamondbacks struck out 10 times, and just couldn’t get a run.
The difference came down to preparedness; the Giants were ready for the game, Arizona was blindsided. So much went into their previous series, there was nothing left for San Fran. . Pitching, Lopez allowed three runs and five hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings for his third loss in four starts.
