VIRGINIA TECH HOKIES (8-2)
at MIAMI HURRICANES (7-3)
Kickoff: Saturday, 3:30 p.m. EDT, Line: Virginia Tech -2, Total: 50
Virginia Tech goes for its ninth straight win when it travels to Miami on Saturday. The Hurricanes have won two straight despite its QB Jacory Harris sidelined with a concussion. Head coach Randy Shannon said that Harris will not be rushed back from such a serious injury, meaning Stephen Morris will likely start against the Hokies. NFL spreads.
Morris has been solid in his two starts, completing 28-of-48 passes for 516 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He will facing a superb Virginia Tech defense that has 16 interceptions, just one fewer than the nation’s leaders. The Hokies have allowed a paltry 121 passing YPG in their past four games. Miami might be better served to focus on its ground game. The ‘Canes have rushed for more than 170 yards in seven straight games. Senior Damien Berry leads the team with 763 yards on the ground and five rushing TD. NFL lines.
The Hokies have won seven of their past eight games by 15-plus points, the exception being a 7-point win over Georgia Tech. Senior QB Tyrod Taylor has had a monster season with 1,988 passing yards and 18 TD plus 581 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Taylor has only thrown four interceptions and is a big reason why the Hokies are tied for eighth among FBS schools in turnover margin per game (+1.0). RB Ryan Williams is finally healthy, which is bad news for ‘Canes fans considering Williams rushed for 150 yards and two scores against Miami in last year’s 31-7 win.
Since 2006, Virginia Tech is 14-4 ATS (17-1 SU) in November, including a perfect 9-0 ATS on the road. The one SU loss was a 16-14 defeat at four-point favorite Miami in 2008. The Hokies are 8-1 ATS (5-4 SU) in the past nine meetings with Miami. The FoxSheets give another reason to pick Virginia Tech to win again on Saturday:
VIRGINIA TECH is 20-4 ATS (83.3%, +15.6 Units) as a road favorite of 7 points or less since 1992. The average score was VIRGINIA TECH 28.0, OPPONENT 15.2 – (Rating = 3*). NFL betting lines.
