The tree biggest teams of the NHL i.e. Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadians and the Pittsburgh Penguins continue to await some word in regards to Jaromir Jagr and if he will return to the NHL. According to the Pittsburgh Tribune the Penguins have not heard from the player as of Wednesday according to General Manager Ray Shero. However there are some sources which told the newspaper that an agreement has been reached with the Penguins as he flew over from the Czech Republic over to the United States.

According to some media reports Jagr has a year long contract with Montreal and Detroit. As of late yesterday night no one knows where Jagr is. Both Detroit GM Ken Holland and Shero said that they had not gotten any word from Jagr or even his agent the former NHL defense man petr Svoboda. Svoboda speaking to the Free Press said “I don’t know if he missed a connection,” “I have no clue.”

Earlier yesterday Svoboda told the press that Jagr was getting over to the United States and would make his intentions clear when he got here but he then added later “I don’t know where he is.”. Shero as well as the Penguins are saying that they hope that Jagr comes out and accepts their offer so that they can play one season with the Penguins and retires with a team that drafted him back in 1990 as the fifth overall. Shero speaking to the Post-Gazette yesterday said “We feel from the information we have and after seeing at world championships, that he’s a guy who might be able to help us this coming season,” “We feel he’s a guy who could help us this year, and retire as a Penguin.”

Jagr is a native to the Czech Republic and has spent three years playing for the Russia Kontinental hockey League after a 17 year stint with the NHL. If he comes back to the NHL he will return with 1599 career points and be termed as the most active player. However he officially cannot sign with the team until this Friday when free agency begins.
