Jeremy Lin will have left knee surgery and will miss 6 weeks, likely ending his dazzling discovery season.

The New York Knicks said their point guard had an MRI examination that revealed a little, prolonged meniscus tear.

With the regular season ending April 26, the largest story in basketball this season is perhaps done irrespective of whether the N.Y Knicks make the playoffs. Las Vegas odds

The N.Y Knicks may continue to turn to Baron Davis in the place of Lin, the undrafted Harvard alum who became the starter in Feb. and turned in a series of brilliant effectiveness, kicking off Linsanity.

Lin is averaging 14.1 points and 6.1 helps, but the numbers tell only a little bit of the tale.

New York coach Mike Woodson, addressing reporters before the Cavaliers game, announced it’s going to be not likely the team signs any point guards. Vegas odds

In addition to Davis and Mike Bibby off the bench, Woodson claimed Toney Douglas can anticipate seeing an increased role.

“I haven’t had an opportunity to sit down with [GM] Glen (Grunwald) and (proprietor) Mr. (James) Dolan and see. My thinking is that we’ll probably go with what we have,” Woodson expounded. “I do not think there’s a whole lot out there now who will make a serious difference for our ballclub.”

The New York Knicks were under .500 and a mess when Lin was given an opportunity to play extended minutes at point guard for then-coach Mike D’Antoni on February 4 towards New Jersey.

Lin, the 1st American-born player of Taiwanese or Chinese descent to play in the NBA, scored 25 points with 7 helps in that N.Y victory was inserted into the starting lineup 2 days later against Utah, and took the Knicks on a 7-game winning streak that acquired international awareness.

Lin left the Knicks’ simple victory over Detroit last Saturday, announcing afterwards he could have returned for the 4th quarter if the game had been close. He took part in shootaround previous to their game last Monday and believed he may deal with the pain.

Though the swelling went down, the discomfort never did, and after testing the knee again Friday and Sat., he decided to have the surgery.

It’s the 2nd bad injury loss of the week for the New York Knicks, who are fighting for a playoff spot. Amare Stoudemire is out 2 to 4 weeks with a back injury, leaving the Knicks without their 2nd- and 3rd-leading scorers for perhaps the remainder of the regular season.

Besides to Lin and Stoudemire, the Knicks also have dealt with wounds to Jared Jeffries (right knee swelling) and Carmelo Anthony (groin), while Tyson Chandler (groin) and Davis (hamstring) are playing thru minor injuries.

Lin will be a restricted independent agent this offseason but expounded he’s more interested in getting healthy than getting paid.

“I’m not even worried regarding that now. It isn’t like a career-ending thing or it is not anything which will trouble me,” Lin recounted. “Whenever it’s fixed, it’s fixed. It’s the simplest surgery you can have and I’m more concerned regarding this season.”

Even so, Lin intends to be back with the Knicks next season.
