According to what the New York Jets have said Jerricho Cotchery had wanted out for a long time. Just two hours after the Jets had announced Cotchery’s release the Jets added yet another twist to the departure of the popular wide receiver with the coach Rex Ryan who claimed that Cotchery had requested to be either traded to cut. Just a few hours after the move Ryan said “It was tough,” “J-Co wanted to … he asked for a trade or to be released and that’s what happened.”

As the news goes both Mark Sanchez the quarterback for the team and Ryan had tried to change the wide receiver’s mid over the past couple of days. Ryan had said that he did not want to release the third best wide receiver for the team and added that there could be a possible addition of the free agent Derrick Mason who had no bearing on Cotchery’s decision. Mason had met with officials from the team back on Thursday at the facility. The Jets plus two other teams are in hot pursuit of the veteran wideout according to the source. Betting lines

Just a few days back Cotchery’s agent had gotten permission from the Jets to go forth and speak to other teams about a trade according to a source. That development around the time that Plaxico Burress was signing up which may have probably upset the wide receiver who had been hoping to gain his previous job after the departure of Braylon Edwards who is now a free agent and has agreed to a $3.5 million contracted with the 49ers. Cotchery had come over to the Jets as part of a trade last season when they had traded him for Santonio Holmes and he also played when suffering a herniated disc in his back. He had undergone surgery back in Feburary and had prepped for camp as he thought that he would be getting his old job back. Then came the news that Burress was stepping in. It may have also been possible that his pay was also being cut from his 2011 salary.

Ryan said “The bad news is Jerricho Cotchery is no longer a Jet,” “That’s tough, there’s no doubt about it.”
