KEVIN KOLB IS NOT RESENTFUL WITH THE CARDINALS
Thu, 19 Apr 2012 02:27 AM EDT

Quarterback Kevin Kolb asserts he has no hard feelings toward the Arizona Cardinals for their pursuit of Peyton Manning, but he wishes the team had communicated with him better while that highly publicized method was ongoing. Basketball spreads

Kolb, in his 1st public comments on the issue, stated that he has since spoke with Coach Ken Whisenhunt in regard to his concerns.

“Without getting into too much accuracy about our dialogue, I simply announced in the future if you can just communicate with me, I’ll take it, if this is the route you’re going,” Kolb said. “I’d just rather hear it from him than the ticker. He concluded. That’s how relations grow and this is where we’re going.”

Kolb chatted to reporters as the players gathered for organized conditioning exercise programs.

“Look, everyone knows what this league is about,” he claimed. “If you’ve been in it for awhile you know that you need to fight for your job every day and every single year. It’s management’s responsibility here and in each organization to make certain they do their best to boost every position. In my mind, it’s their right to go look wherever they have to look. The only thing is there were a few things that might have been handled a bit different. We’ve debated those and anticipate the future and winning a lot of football games collectively.”

The quarterback, whose initial season with Arizona was tormented by injury, is in a fight with John Skelton for the starting position.

Kolb was asked if the team’s attention to Manning would add to his motivation. Baseball odds

“You get fueled by lots of things,” Kolb said. “Absolutely, that might add some kind of spark, but I mean I’m fighting for my job anyhow. Like I said, I approach every day like that. John and I are competitive. We’ve talked about that before. So there’s plenty to get fired up about and get a spark about. More than that, it’s my obligation. I mean, they made some major moves to get me here and it’s my obligation to hold up my end of the agreement.”

The Cardinals sent cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a 2nd-round draft pick to Philadelphia to get Kolb, then signed the quarterback to a 5-year, $63 million deal, with $21 million assured. Kolb sweated out a March 16 cut off point to discover if he would get the $7 million compensation if he stayed on the Arizona roster. Had the Cardinals nabbed Manning, they would have released Kolb because they would have needed that money for a Manning deal.

With no offseason with the team due to the players’ labor conflict with the NFL, Kolb struggled to adapt to Whisenhunt’s offense.

The team won its season opener against Carolina Panthers, but lost the next 6. Then Kolb was sidelined with a turf toe. Skelton came on and was at the controls as Arizona won 3 of its next 4. Kolb returned and had his best game of the season in a victory over Dallas Cowboys. But he took a knee to the head early in the subsequent game, on San Francisco 49ers, and the concussion put him out for the rest of the season. Arizona finished the season 8-8, winning 7 of its last 9 games.
