KNICKS SMASH GRIZZLIES IN BLOWOUT INCLUDING 20 3’S
Mon, 21 Mar 2011 06:23 PM EDT

New York’s reserve guard Toney Douglas played some spectacular basketball on Thursday night against the Memphis Grizzlies. Toney who wore a pair of really flashy green sneakers gave some serious shooting lessons to everybody out there watching the game at the Madison Square Garden. Basketball spreads.

Douglas tied a franchise record by making nine of the Knicks’ franchise-record 20 3-pointers and finished with a total of 29 points in a 120-99 blowout win over the Grizzlies.

New York’s recently acquired superstar Carmelo Anthony finished the game with 28 points while teammate Chauncey Billups registered 18. The Knicks who were 55% from beyond the arc moved ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference by stealing the sixth place in the race to the post season.

Since it was St. Patrick’s Day, the Knicks followed the tradition by wearing green uniforms for this special occasion. The last time New York wore green uniforms was during last Christmas when they defeated the Chicago Bulls. Basketball lines.

Starting point guard Mike Conley scored 16 points for the Grizzlies, but his contribution wasn’t enough to avoid the loss. With this defeat, Memphis is losing their chances to get the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Knicks’ main off-season addition Amare Stoudemire added 16 points and 9 rebounds.

New York improved their 8 point halftime leading margin into a massive blowout by scoring seven three’s in the 3rd quarter. The Memphis Grizzlies got knocked off and had no answers after that.

The New York Knicks are now 7-6 since Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups joined the line-up and have struggled to climb up higher in the standings.

To wrap up, New York is still 6th in the Eastern Conference standings with about a month to go before the regular season ends. If playoffs started today, they would be playing against the 3rd seeded Miami Heat. Memphis on the other hand, stands at 9th place in the Western Conference and are expected to face a hard time while trying to reach for the final playoff which now belongs to the Utah Jazz.
