MAGIC SWEEP CAVALIERS
Mon, 31 Jan 2011 11:36 AM EST

In Orlando’s 100th consecutive sellout, the Magic handed the Cleveland Cavaliers a hard loss on Sunday night. Coming into the game, the Magic were looking to find some consistency and turn things around after their 99-90 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Friday night. The Cavaliers, on the other hand, were hoping to bring an end to a grueling 20-game losing streak. However, it was the high-powered offense of Orlando that followed the lead of Dwight Howard to a 103-87 shutout on Sunday. The Magic took the lead in the first quarter and never looked back. After regulation time, Cleveland went on to record its 30th loss in 31 games. Basketball scores.

The Magic [31-17] certainly dazzled the crowd in this one. A lot of that had to do with center Dwight Howard, who netted his 36th double-double of the season by halftime to finish with 20 points, 20 rebounds and 2 assists. The center led a strong offense, which made up for a lack of defense in the later periods of the game. While Orlando came out strong in the first quarter, the magic was whittled away as time ran out. Luckily, strong performances from Ryan Anderson [23 points, 16 rebounds], J.J. Redick [17 points, 1 rebound], Jason Richardson [12 points, 2 rebounds] and Brandon Bass [12 points, 8 rebounds] kept the Magic ahead of the Cavs for the duration of the game. Jameer Nelson also returned to the starting lineup after sustaining a strained right knee in Chicago to contribute 7 points, 8 assists and a win for his team. Basketball odds.

The Cavaliers [8-39] trailed in every quarter, by as much as 22 at one point, before finishing 16 points behind Orlando. Coach Byron Scott put Manny Harris in place Daniel Gibson to try and fuel the offense up, but the PG’s 20 point, 6 rebound, 3 assist performance failed to inspire the broken Cleveland team.

The Cavs finished the night with 43 percent shooting, 31 percent beyond the arch, and turned the ball over 18 times. With the loss, the team fell a franchise single-season record of losses.
