MAVERICKS ALMOST MATCH BULLS
Fri, 21 Jan 2011 11:25 AM EST

It was a close and downright physical battle between the Chicago Bulls and the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night. The Bulls might have won, but they struggled without forward Carl Boozer, who was absent for his third game after having surgery on his thumb. As a result, a lot of the pressure was put on Derrick Rose. Although he was not particularly proud of the way Chicago played, he did his best to spark the sluggish offense. His efforts paid off, as the Bulls won the match 82-77 after regulation time. Vegas odds.

It was a grind of a game for Chicago, but they won the final lead in the fourth and refused to let it go. Rose contributed 26 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists, and was the only Chicago player to score in double-digits. Old-timer Kurt Thomas gave 9 points and 11 rebounds, while Taj Gibson had 4 points and 6 rebounds while filling in for Boozer. Thomas and Gibson hit foul trouble in the third quarter and, after picking up four each, left the task of defending Nowitzki to Ronnie Brewer and Luol Deng. Luckily there did a good job of limiting the seven-foot PF. Betting lines.

On a rather odd note, this was the first game in a while in which the Bulls made no fastbreak points. The offense and sloppy and the road was rough, but in the end, the win pulled Chicago within one game of the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference. Sports scores.

The Mavericks were able to steal the lead a number of times, but lost it for good in the fourth when Dirk Nowitzki missed a jumper at the 8:42 mark. However, Dallas made Chicago work for the points they got by working hard. Player of the game Tyson Chandler came through with 12 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double, and Jason Terry and DeShawn Stevenson also scored 12. Stevenson managed his on four shots form the 3-point range. Nowitzki gave 19 points in his fourth straight game since returning from a knee injury, and seems to be improving.
