Even though a victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers was crucial for the New Orleans Hornets, they might have paid a bit too much for it. The Cavaliers are having a laughable season and they were down to 49 defeats before this game. However, the New Orleans Hornets need to win as many as possible if they want to make it to the play-offs, so they couldn’t afford any mistake. The star of the Hornets team, Chris Paul, had to leave the court on a stretcher and he will definitely have to stay out of the next game. Basketball scores.
“I talked to people in the room with him on the phone, and he is in good spirits, talking and cracking jokes in the background,” Monty Williams, New Orleans Hornets coach, stated. “He was upset that they had to wait for the CT results. He was ready to get out of the hospital, as most of us hate being in hospitals. We’ll see what the doctors say.”
The first quarter started with the Hornets and the Cavaliers looking very evenly matched. None of the teams could really hold on to a lead for very long and this game’s outcome was extremely difficult to predict. The Hornets did manage to grab a slim advantage by the end of the first quarter and the score was 27-24. Basketball odds.
“Sometimes things like that happen,” West stated. “You can kind of get deflated, but I thought we stayed engaged and just pushed through. We can worry about it now, but we had a job to do while we were out there.”
The second quarter was almost identical to the first, but this time, the Hornets were not fortunate enough to add to their lead. The teams really looked tremendous as they matched each other shot per shot. The Hornets may have a bit more raw talent, but the Cavaliers were able to overcome that with their determination.
The third quarter brought forth a couple of new things. First of all, it was in the third quarter that Chris Paul had to leave the court, and it was in the third quarter that the Cleveland Cavaliers finally ran out of gas. David West stepped up to the plate, and his awesome performance helped the Hornets add 4 points to their lead. The Cavaliers couldn’t stand up for themselves anymore and, because of their dismal second half performance, they lost the game. The final score was 96-81, and the Hornets hope Paul’s injury is not too serious. Basketball spreads.
