NUGGETS FALL TO HORNETS
Mon, 10 Jan 2011 09:52 AM EST

The New Orleans Hornets traveled to Colorado to take on the usually relentless Denver Nuggets. The game featured a distracted and lethargic Denver team, which New Orleans routed without much of a hassle. In addition to speculation about who would win the game, the talk of the night was more about the potential three-team trade that would see Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups move to the New Jersey Nets. Although the talk was only rumor, it certainly seemed to have an effect on Denver’s game. In the end, the Hornets held onto their lead to send the Nuggets to their third straight loss. Odds.

Denver now stands with a 20-16 record in third place of the Northwest division and seventh place in the Western Conference. They have gotten there with a cast of resolute players and strong determination, but recently the team has run into a wall. In their third consecutive loss, Melo was far from his usual self. After only two shots in the first half, he finished with 8 points and four assist. While coach George Karl accredited the low number of shot to foul trouble, Denver fans were not as understanding while booing him throughout the game. Scores.

Billups was also out of whack, contributing 13 points, 3 assists and 3 turnovers in his 38 minutes. Furthermore, the Nuggets were without Kenyon Martin, Chris “Birdman” Andersen and Ty Lawson. They pulled close on several occasion, but Denver simply lacked the heart that they usually bring to games. Las Vegas odds.

The Hornets made up for Friday’s loss to the L.A. Lakers with a win over Denver. The team is now 22-16 and third place in the Southwest Division. As always, David West [19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists] and Chris Paul [20 points, 6 assists and 4 turnovers] came through to help take the win. Guard Trevor Ariza also did well, contributing 12 points and 7 rebounds. After shooting 20 of 21 from the line and holding off the Nuggets, New Orleans took the game to move forward as the season progresses.
