If the New Orleans Saints asked Bill Parcells to be interim chief coach during Sean Payton’s yearlong suspension, the 2011 Hall of fame finalist announces he would be a “hypocrite” if he didn’t at least consider the chance.
“If the chance presents itself, I could think it over and obviously I’m in some part of the process without knowing whether it may become a fact,” Parcells asserted. Baseball lines.
“You know, when I was a young coach, there were people like Chuck Noll, Chuck Knox and Tom Landry who were there for me. I think to revere those men who helped me, you turn around and pass that inheritance on to someone else and Sean’s a real example of that. If he wants me and the owner and GM feel the same way, then I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t consider it.”
Payton, a previous assistant under Parcells with the Dallas Cowboys, considers Parcells his coach and the 2 have spoken numerous times considering Payton learned last week the NFL meant to suspend him for all of the coming season for his role in New Orleans’ bounty program. Payton recounted almost all of those conversations concerned how Parcells might deal with an identical scenario, not whether he was interested in returning to the sideline in New Orleans.
Managing director Mickey Loomis, who is suspended for the 1st 8 games for his role in the program, joined those talks, golfing with Payton and Parcells at the league meetings in Jupiter, Florida.
Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said no decisions had been made on a provisional coach after Tuesday’s meeting with Parcells, who will be 71 years of age in August. Payton has made it obvious he is hoping Parcells can help New Orleans advance.
“There are a lot of variables, things you may call subordinate things,” Parcells announced. “My heart can go one way but my mind also has to investigate all of these subordinate things and define if it’s really what’s suitable for Sean, the Saints, what’s suitable for those players and coaches and if I’m equipped to make it work. So we have some time here.”
Payton has the choice to appeal the suspension, which could buy him a little time to agree on a 2012 replacement. A resource in the league office said that if Payton appeals, the hearing and governing should come in “days, not weeks,” and that any notion Payton may extend his working standing thru the draft in late April is inaccurate.
Should there be a petition; the New Orleans Saints would like to determine if it ends up in a reduced penalty prior to deciding whether to look in the organization for Payton’s substitute.
“It would just be considering all options, to be fair, and actually trying to do our homework on each alternative prior to making a decision,” Payton announced. “There are a lot of little steps here before we’d get to that point of having to make a choice.” Baseball betting lines.
Parcells, who has additionally coached the New York Jets, New York Giants and New England Patriots in addition to the Cowboys, could present the ultimate quick solution for a franchise that has Super Bowl aspirations.
