Peyton Manning plans to come back to football, but he and the Colts’ owner Jim Irsay have not talked his future, he claimed in an interview. NFL odds
Manning declared that he and Irsay will debate whether the Super Bowl-winning quarterback will remain with the Colts “at the proper time, and when we do, I think some choices will be made after that. But till then I’m just continuing to rehab, work conscientiously, and to delight in this week because it really is a special week for the city and actually for my family.”
Manning said that his improvement from spinal fusion surgery in September – his third surgery in nineteen months – is going well in spite of the simple fact he didn’t play last season. NFL spreads
“I feel really nice. I carry on making progress each day,” he announced. “Everything that the doctors have told me has been on point, which is inspiring to me. I just had a wonderful day today with rehabilitation, just got back from the facility, and that’s what we keepdoing. Just keep trying to get better. So far I have. That is the program from here on out.”
Manning claimed that he will keep having observation over the following weeks, and termed his humor as “inspiring.”
The Colts face a March 8 cut off point for a call on Manning. They owe him a $28 million option bonus on that date. If they don’t pay it, he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Asked to predict what call will be made, Manning postponed.
“I cannot foretell that,” he revealed. “I consider it’s well documented how I feel about this town, the fans, the Colts, Jim Irsay. It’s well documented. Difficult choices have to be made. They are going to be made at the right time. This is just not the week to do it. It isn’t the week. I know folks can talk about the subject, that’s adequate, that’s part of the game. It doesn’t indicate that I need to add to that conversation, and I just don’t want to.”
How many more years will he play? “Hard to say,” Manning declared. “This is hard to say.”
“There’s no set calendar. I really don’t. I’ve played a long time. I’m thankful for the time that I have played so far, and I have nothing to attack about. How much longer, we’ll see.”
Manning announced he will wait for the Super Bowl to be over before talking to Irsay. He added that he doesn’t believe the decision on his future with the Colts will come down to the last minute.
“I assume the sooner the better, I really do,” he announced. “Jim and I talk consistently, we really do. We’re in continuous communication, and after this week is over, we’ll do it, and we’ll make an excellent plan from there. Either way, it may be good. I’m at calmness, and it’ll be a positive thing, I can assert you.”
The Colts finished 2-14 last season and have the No.1 pick in the NFL draft. Since the end of the season, Irsay has fired Colts vice chairman Bill Polian, GM Chris Polian, Coach Jim Caldwell and almost all of Caldwell’s assistants.
On Monday, Irsay tried to deflect awareness away from a public altercation he was having with Manning and put the centre of attraction precisely back on the Super Bowl matching the New York Giants versus the New England Patriots.
Manning named his association with Irsay as “good.”
“It’s always been great,” Manning said. “And it may keep being great, I promise you of that.”
