Rafael Nadal managed to overcome a foot injury and prove why he is the top seeded defending champ as he beat Juan Martin del Potro 7-6 (6), 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 in a duel that finally came to rest just a few minutes after 9 p.m. Nadal was visibly in pain and asked for a timeout after he had hurt his left foot prior to the game’s first tie breaker. Del Potro who won the second set against Nadal had a medical timeout of his own after he slipped and fell at baseline at a 2-2 in the third.
