RAFAEL NADAL WINS DESPITE PAIN AND INJURY
Wed, 29 Jun 2011 04:33 PM EDT

Rafael Nadal managed to overcome a foot injury and prove why he is the top seeded defending champ as he beat Juan Martin del Potro 7-6 (6), 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 in a duel that finally came to rest just a few minutes after 9 p.m. Nadal was visibly in pain and asked for a timeout after he had hurt his left foot prior to the game’s first tie breaker. A trainer was seen spraying and taping the foot and later Nadal fell 3-0 behind in the tiebreaker set and was visibly limping between the points, but he managed to save a set pot at just 6-5 down and managed the tiebreaker while in his fourth set when Del Potro mistakenly double faulted. According to Nadal he first thought that he had broken his foot in a match which was though and he had worried that he would not be fit for the quarterfinal against Mardy Fish who had beat Tomas Berdych the 2010 runners up by 7-6 (5), 6-4, 6-4.

Nadal said “For a moment at the end of the first set, I thought that I had to retire,” “I didn’t know what’s going on. After that, the pain goes a little bit down and finally I was ready to play.”

Nadal did say that he would need to get an MRI done on his foot and so he wasn’t 100 percent sure exactly how fit he will be when the quarterfinal starts on Wednesday against 10th seeded player fish. Basketball odds

Nadal said “I’m worried, for sure. I’m going to do the MRI. We’ll see what’s going on. Tomorrow, we will see,” “I cannot predict the future.”

Del Potro who won the second set against Nadal had a medical timeout of his own after he slipped and fell at baseline at a 2-2 in the third. He was on the ground for many seconds, and was sheen grabbing his left hip. After a few minutes of locker room treatment Del Potro came back and didn’t appear to be badly injured. Betting lines

In addition to Nadal three other players Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer had advanced into the quarterfinals. Djokovic is a person who could replace Nadal as the champion of the world by reaching and winning the final, he beat Michael Llodra from France 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.
