ROCKETS CLINCH CELTICS
Tue, 11 Jan 2011 10:16 AM EST

With 19 seconds left on the clock, Houston gave three last attempts to imbound the ball. One was tipped in, one called for an emergency time out, and then it got to Aaron Brooks. He was soon fouled, and wisely used both free throws to help the Rockets rout the Celtics. That is how the Houston-Boston showdown came to an end on Monday night. The Rockets’ five game losing streak came to an end, and the Celtics fell behind the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference with their first loss at home since November 19th last year. Vegas odds.

Interestingly enough, this game marks the third time that Houston has traveled to Boston without key players and won. This time around Yao Ming Kevin Martin and Brad Miller were unable to play. Still, as coach Rick Adelman put it, “The guys never folded, never gave them an inch.” Player of the game Aaron Brooks returned from an ankle injury, contributing 24 points, five assists and five rebounds in place of Martin. Luis Scola came through with a team-high 24 points and 10 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season. However, he was also fouled out for the third time this year. To top things off, guard Kyle Lowry scored 17 points and had eight assists with a bock and a steal. At the close of the fourth quarter, the Rockets had one of their longest losing streaks of the season to an end. Sports scores.

Boston lacked the “mental mindset” that got them all the way to Game7 of last year’s playoffs. Coach Doc Rivers was quoted saying, “I’ve got to somehow figure out a way of getting them to see the urgency of the whole season, and not the single game. This year’s not like last year, where you can coast. If you don’t have home court this year, you could go home.” If the Boston team doesn’t start showing up in their games, they will have a long dry summer to think about how they should have. The team got close at points, even cutting a nine-point deficit to one with seven points from Marquis Daniels, but the lethargic game was not enough in the end.
