America’s favorite tennis player, Andy Roddick, faces adversity in every game. His explosive play style has drawn media attention for years. On Monday he presented some anger and frustration, but in a rare turn of events, he composed himself and won the match. He was playing against Sergiy Stakhovsky, in the Ohio based Cincinnati Masters tournament.

Tennis has become the ever increasingly global sport, and as such, there are an increasing number of good players from all over the world that show up at tournaments. Americans will always hold some of the most legendary records, but there are many international contenders these days. Andy Roddick faced off against a tough opponent, miraculously managing to take the win after a mid-game mishap. His temper flared. He even threw his racket after blowing a 5-2 lead in the tie-breaker and committing an unforced error on set point in the second set. No. 25 Thomaz Bellucci advanced alongside Roddick on Monday night with a 7-6 (6), 7-5 win over 68th-ranked Benjamin Becker. No. 14 Robby Ginepri wrapped up the tournament’s first day with a long drawn out 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-2 win against 103rd-ranked Somdev Devvarman.
