One of the unsung heroes of the Tennis world is most certainly Andy Roddick, a player who has been struggling to win a major title for a long time. His much-publicized feud with Roger Federer ended in disaster during the most recent Wimbledon. He has been getting beaten out early in a lot of tournaments lately, and despite training harder than anyone, has failed to deliver a worthy performance.
Most recently, he saw his efforts fail in the third round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic. Roddick is an all American tennis star. If he could only start winning, he would really be on a roll. The second seeded Roddick has won this US Open Series event three times. However, he was taken out much earlier than anyone expected by 13th seeded Frenchman, Gilles Simon.
The game was exciting, as all of Roddicks’ games are, but as the world has seen recently, he has failed to maintain his momentum. He has one of the strongest and fastest serves on the planet, but even with that in his arsenal, he continues to get beaten out. He is ranked ninth in the world, and is the second highly placed American to be beaten out in the past few days.
Xavier Malisse of Belgium took out John Isner. The tennis world has seen many international players rise to power over the years. While America remains as one of the best countries for the sport, there are many top players from around the globe. Spanish Rafael Nadal is the world’s No. 1, after coming back from a slow 2009 that was plagued with injuries.
Roddick has lost five of his last 14 matches on tour, and was beat 6-3, 6-3 on Thursday night. Roddick did however win the two previous matches against Simon. Hopefully he can find his power again, and come back to the top where he belongs. Be sure and follow all the hottest tennis action at www.scoresandodds.com.
