The Kansas City Royals are doing well this year; they have had some great winning streaks, some tough games, and defeated some difficult opponents. On Tuesday night they took out the Oakland Athletics in a surprising display of raw offensive power. Alex Gordon blasted a walk off home run, and his team claimed another win. It ended 3-2 after nine innings of baseball.
Sometimes players go on hitting streaks, they just fell relaxed and in the zone. This has been the case for Gordon, the past five games he has hit three home runs, and has had many solid base hits to help push his team forward. He says there is no reason for his recent power surge, and that he hasn’t even been trying to hit homers. He says it has just been happening. Well Gordon, hopefully it keeps just on happening.
The pitching and fielding provided him with all the support he needed to put the game away against the Athletics. Jesse Chavez, and Greg Blanco have recently come over from the Atlanta Braves, they have infused the team with some new talent, and the effects have been great. Chavez pitched some brilliant stuff for two innings to earn a win. Soria followed Chavez and earned his 30th save in 32 chances. Blanco scored for the Royals, and singled in the fifth.
The A’s were unprepared for the new face of the Royals, the last time they played, they walked away victorious. Trevor Cahill shut them out, but they have bounced back and taken four of five after a five game losing streak. The future is bight for the Royals, as long as they can keep the pressure on their opposition.
