The former quarterback for North Carolina State Russell Wilson is now headed to Wisconsin which may solve one of the biggest issues standing in the way of the Badgers and their Big Ten title. According to Bret Bieleman the coach for Wisconsin Wilson will be competing for the starting job later this year. The sport star recently played for the Colorado Rockies’ minor league but is now ready to put away his baseball spikes. Baseball betting lines
Bieleman in a statement released by the school said “This is an unusual situation, especially for a program that prides itself on developing players throughout their careers, as we do here at Wisconsin,” “However, this is a special situation and Russell is the type of player and person that fits very well with our team.”
Wilson just has a year of eligibility remaining and can start playing immediately. He will also attend graduate school in Wisconsin. Previously Wilson also considered Auburn prior to settling for Wisconsin. In an appearance on ESPN he said that he wasn’t seeking any assurances from the state’s coaching staff about putting him in the no.1 spot. Baseball lines
Wilson said “I never want to be told that I have the starting job,” “I never believe in that. I believe that being the competitor that I am, you have to compete every single day.”
However the arrival of Wilson could help to fill a glaring hold in for the Badgers who are looking to replace Scott Tolizien their hard hitting quarterback after their run over through to the Rose Bowl. Wilson could possibly help to make the Badgers one of the favorites at the conference. Back in the spring game it was Wisconsin’s offence which failed to score a touchdown and both Joe Brennan and Jon Budmayr both struggled in the center position. Joel Stave showed some potential of the whole bunch in the spring game but he is just a freshman. Basketball betting lines
Bielema at that time speaking about those three quarterbacks said “aren’t anywhere where we need them to be for us to be a competitive team in the fall.”
Curt Phillips another potential starter will be missing this season owing to knee surgery. Wilson has a completed percentage of 58.4% with 28 touchdowns and around 14 interceptions in the last 13 games in the previous season.
