Mon, 27 Jun 2011 11:58 AM EDT

Serena Williams has returned to grand slam tennis after being out for a year due to health issues, however Serena Williams definitely made one heck of an opening at her title defense game yesterday by beating rival Aravane Rezai in the three sets they played… later busting out in tears while walking off the Centre Court. She served her 13th ace to the close with a super 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win, Williams was seen burring her face in her towel and crying from her chair. She was also crying as he left the court, she was visually overcome with emotions after she endured a very long layoff which included two big foot operations as well as treatment for blood clots in her lungs.

Serena Williams who is a four time champion said “I usually don’t cry … but it’s just been so hard,” “I never dreamt I would be here right now. And then to win. I just wanted to win at least one match here.”

Serena faced a number of midmatch slumps but managed to reassert herself over the French player in the third set with a huge serve and great ground shots. She showed exactly why she is the champion and the favorite this year despite her very long absence from the court and her 7th seeding. NFL betting lines

Williams said “It’s been a disaster year, but I’ve been praying,” “To be able to come back at Wimbledon is pretty awesome. I didn’t expect to play. And I didn’t expect to even do anything. So I’m just excited. I’ve never cried with joy for anything.”

Williams said “It definitely was so emotional for me because throughout the last 12 months, I’ve been through a lot of things that’s not normal, things you guys don’t even know about,” “It’s just been a long, arduous road. To stand up still is pretty awesome.”

Rezai who is ranked at no. 61st come out swinging hard and tried to break Williams in the first game that lasted a good nine minutes prior to going 2-0. But then Williams managed to win five games consecutively and managed to take the set with four unforced errors. Williams had lost momentum during the second last set and Rezai broke with the sixth game to force a good third. Odds
