There is a press conference which has been scheduled on Wednesday by the Indiana Pacers which will officially open the seal on Frank Vogel’s promotion from part time gig to a full time coach according to sources close to the situation. This has been a move which has been long anticipated by many and was officially announced by Pacers president Larry Bird just six days into the biggest NBA’s stoppage of work since back in 1998 which leaves the Detroit Pistons as the one team which does not have a coach.
Vogel has emerged as the only favorite to the Pacers job back in April when he replaced full time coach Jim O’Brien back in January as their interim coach, he lead the team into the first playoff game since back in 2006. According to the Los Angeles Lakers two weeks ago the former assistant coach Brian Shaw had also agreed to work for the Pacers as their associate head coach which signaled that Voguel’s formal appointment as their head coach was inevitable. The start reported that Vogel will get a two year contract with the team and also an option for the third season. Bird speaking of Vogel back in early June said “He’s going to get every opportunity to have this job,” “What we’re doing now is just going through the process. Hopefully it won’t take more than a week or two.” Scores
Vogel started off working as a video coordinator with the Boston Celtics under the leadership of Rick Pitino, then Vogel worked for the Philadelphia 76ers, the Washington Wizards and Lakers prior to joining the Pacers as their assistant under O’Brien. Vogel had a record of 20-18 over the last 38 games which helped the Pacers get to the No.8 seed spot in the East prior to a five game losing streak to the Bulls in their first round. While the Pistons have five candidates for their opening it is Mike woods and Lawrence Frank who stand a chance but they have already been interviewed for the job. NFL betting lines
It is also reported that the Timberwolves have decided to fire their coach Kurt Rambis after just two seasons. The official announcement will probably be made shortly as well as the reason for the firing.
