SOUTHWEST DIVISION CHALLENGE
Tue, 30 Nov 2010 04:12 PM EST

It was an exciting game between the two Southwest Division rivals. In an impressive shift of momentum, the San Antonio Spurs turned the game over to beat the New Orleans Hornets 109-95 on Sunday. This game marks the Hornets’ first lost at home this season. It also extended the Spurs best overall start to 14-2, and matched a franchise best 7-0 start on the road. It was an exciting game for each team, as they both came close to taking the match-up. However in the end, San Antonio’s coach came through with a clever plan to secure the win. Basketball scores.

This victory did many miraculous things for the Spurs. Above all, it extended their lead to two games ahead of the Dallas Mavericks and the New Orleans Hornets tied in second. Things started off slow for San Antonio. However, coach Gregg Popovich made a few defensive adjustments to turn his team around.  Choosing to go with a smaller and quicker lineup, he encouraged the Spurs to step it up on the defense side of the game. Before long, those changes were paying off. Tim Duncan scored 21 points, 7 rebounds, 3 turnovers and 2 blocks, while Richard Jefferson went for 19 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 block. Ginobili also shone through as San Antonio’s player of the game with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Basketball odds.

By halftime, the team was shooting 60.5%, but was still behind by 17 points. Popovich continued to press his team throughout the entire game. As he put it, “We made shots and got more aggressive, got a little more physical and just competed better in the second half.” Apparently that was all it took. Basketball spreads.

Although the Hornets had an impressive first quarter, their intensity progressively slipped as the game went on. New Orleans was limited to 35.5 percent shooting and pushed to nine turnovers in the last stretch of the game. Team leader in points gave 23 points and 7 rebounds for his team, but it was not enough to take the win. Perhaps is this team worked on keeping the momentum consistent throughout the game, they would be at the top of the Southwest Division instead.
