Sports rivalries are great for every discipline. Raises bets, increases the chance of getting endorsement deals, more broadcasting and in general it’s good business for everybody surrounding the industry. Odds.

In America there are major rivalries regarding the top sports leagues such as the NBA and the MLB.

In the NBA the Celtics and the Lakers are the biggest rivalry. Boston has owned Los Angeles whenever the teams met in the NBA Finals, winning the first eight encounters since both joined the league.

Nevertheless, the Lakers have in recent years pushed back, winning three of the teams’ last four showdowns, including last year’s Finals in which the Lakers succeeded in a thrilling Game 7. There is a chance that both teams could meet, although the playoffs are just getting started and nothing has been written in the books just yet. Basketball has other rivalries including: New York Knicks versus Chicago Bulls; L.A. Lakers against San Antonio Spurs among others.

With that said and the NBA playoffs going underway, there is this one rivalry that is as ancient as it is new. The MLB has the Yankees and Red Sox rivalry which never got to play each other in the postseason until the arrival of the wild card. Since then, their potential matchups in the league have become the most appealing of postseason possibilities, with these arch-enemies having engaged in two of the most renowned series in baseball history.
