The manager for the Braves Fredi Gonzales didn’t see the crazy balk which gave Atlanta the extra innings win. But everyone else did, having a runner on the third and just two outs in the 10th inning the New York Mets D.J Carrasco stopped and later restarted his winding up motion while Jason Heyward was on strike, he brought home the winning run which gave the Braves a 9-8 pretty close win on Thursday night. Gonzalez said “The next thing I know Heyward’s hands are in the air without a bat,” “I said, ‘What’s going on?’” But it was Heyward who said that the balk was recognized immediately.
Heyward said “(Carrasco) went to set and then he tried to go back and get another sign … without stepping off,”
It happened so quickly that Carrasco could aruge with the plate umpire’s call. Carrasco said “Yeah, as soon as he said it, it made sense,” “It’s kind of like surreal.”
Hernandez managed to double with two of his outs during the 10th innings and then took third after Lucas Duda the first baseman mishandled Jordan Schafer’s ground shot. Hernandez managed to get the winning run off that balk as Gonzalez was watching from the dugout. Baseball betting lines
This was all possible thanks to Brooks Conrad’s homer off a pitch by Francisco Rodriguez towards the end of the ninth. This came right after the Mets managed to get a two run lead after they were recovering from a 6-2 deficit. K-Rod was going good and had not missed a save since he started playing for the Mets who were in a struggle to sweep the series with a .500 for the first time since back in April. But it was the Braves who got their 13th final victory of the season. Baseball odds
Conrad said “For us to at least scratch one out of the series, it was a hard-fought win for us,”
Chipper Jones had managed three hits which included a three run homer which matched his career high of five RBIs prior to leaving the game during the ninth owing to a strained adductor muscle in the right half of his leg this led Gonzalez to say that Jones’ status was now day to day.
