The Cubs and Red Sox will likewise exchange players to be named later on.

The parts had been unable to agree on compensation since Epstein left as managing director of the Red Sox in October. The subject was eventually passed on to Commissioner Bud Selig and both parts submitted written disagreements to Selig last week. But Epstein suggested that the sides ultimately agreed on their lonesome. Basketball lines

“I am relieved that this procedure is over and particularly pleased the teams were able to reach understanding all alone free of intervention from MLB,” Epstein declared in a statement. “I truly desire and accept that this action will help both clubs Along with Chris, who is an extremely proficient reliever joining an excellent organization at a time when there’s some opening in the major league bullpen.”

To produce space on the list for Carpenter, the Red Sox placed reliever Bobby Jenks on the 60-day disabled list as he gets over back surgery.

Carpenter, 26 year old, made 42 relief appearances mixed at Double-A, Triple-A and for the Cubs last season ; with Chicago, the right-hander had a 2.79 ERA in Ten relief outings in his first big league action. He is 21-19 with a 3.62 ERA in 4 minor league seasons.

Carpenter handled the reports properly.

“Well, as fast as they called me into the coaches’ office I kind of had a sense of what was going on,” he said. “I can’t say anything bad. I appreciate all the Cubs have done for me. It’s been a fantastic organization the previous 4 years. I’m anticipating going to Boston and helping them win now.”

Carpenter declared that players had joked around being included in the compensation and added that “I guess my name will go down in history.”

And he’ll play for a different storied franchise.

“If you are going to pick 2 teams to play for, why not it can be the Cubs and the Red Sox?” Carpenter claimed. “You can’t protest concerning that.”

The Red Sox allegedly had directed high in their 1st demands, requesting Cubs ace Matt Garza and even All-Star shortstop Starlin Castro, but the Cubs shot down those options.

Sending Carpenter implies the Cubs won’t lose a best prospect, for example outfielder Brett Jackson, third baseman Josh Vitters or starting pitcher Trey McNutt. Still, Carpenter had some upside as a hard-throwing middle reliever.

“Yeah, Chris is a very good reliever,” Cubs GM Jed Hoyer said. “He’s a difficult player to lose. I believe we all realized we were going to lose something of major price when Theo came over here. This doesn’t change that.

“I wish Chris has a lot of achievement over there. Obviously the Cubs are happy about the new management team with Theo leading it. There had been a cost to be paid for it and that price was Chris. I suspect we all thought that was admissible, but he is gifted and we wish him luck. Hopefully both sides do perfectly by this arrangement.”
