Peyton Manning finished an exhaustive 3-day trip in which he is believed to have visited with the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals, the 2 teams that resources think have appeared as the tops for the free agent quarterback. Football scores

In spite of those sources’ contention about the Broncos and Cardinals as favorites, Manning hasn’t engaged either in deal talks or selected his next team and may not be set to make that decision.

The two the Broncos and Cardinals have the quarterbacks (Tim Tebow and John Skelton, respectively) who stopped the 2011 season as the starter but the Cardinals do have to make a decision by Saturday on $7 million option compensation due to Kevin Kolb, whom they traded for last year. Manning has no firm visits planned with other teams but may talk independently with other coaches, such as Joe Philbin of the Miami Dolphins, sources recounted. Nevertheless after 2 physically and emotionally draining weeks that incorporated extensive workouts, and his break-up with the Colts that started contact with a lot of the 12 teams that have made contact with him, the quarterback was anxious to get some rest and come back to his rehabilitation and throwing program. He also is due for his monthly medical examination related to his neck surgeries after all he has had no reversals, per resources.

Not all 12 teams that have engaged Manning in consultations have been revealed and there were clandestine talks with 1 or 2 of those franchises, according to sources.

One of those franchises became in public revealed Sunday after Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams asserted that he wants Manning and has approached the quarterback’s agent, Tom Condon.

Manning played collegiately at the University of Tennessee. It is unknown whether Manning will return the attention from the Titans.

The Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs have failed in their attempts to get Manning to go to their facilities and are now not considered disputants for the quarterback, sources related.

Manning’s visits to the Broncos and Cardinals were similar in nature and included visits to each team’s training complex. His existing relationships with John Elway, the Broncos Hall-Of-Fame quarterback who heads the football operations and Denver coach John Fox In addition to that with Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt provided a comfort level for Manning to make his 1st visits to those franchises, according to sources.

Manning and Whisenhunt became familiar with each other during a Pro Bowl when Whisenhunt was offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers and a friendship grew from that encounter.

Both sides engaged in extensive football talks, including film study, an analysis of the prevailing registry In addition to organizational dialogues related to the salary cap, sources declared. Manning also had the chance to speak with both teams’ owners and top company management and other select members of the training staffs. Cardinals All-Pro receiver Larry Fitzgerald was present at a dinner Saturday night hosted at the home of Whisenhunt and during a part of the conferences at the team’s complex, according to sources.

One non-Broncos affiliate who chatted with Manning before he departed Denver asserted he believed the Broncos had gained an advantage during their meeting. Nevertheless the Cardinals felt in a similar encouraged by their approach with the 14-year veteran quarterback.
