The last few hurdles for the Spanish point guard who has dreams of playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves have been finally cleared according to sources. Rubio recently posted on his Twitter profile that he will now hold a news conference back in Barcelona later on in Friday to discuss his future in basketball. Basketball scores

Rubio’s tweet was in Spanish and read “Goodnight everyone,” “Tomorrow morning I give a press conference to say my future. A hug and see you tomorrow.”

Rubio was required to get a contract agreement with the Minnesota Timberwolves and then submit it over to the NBA by May 31st in order to be eligible for the next season. The Timberwolves made their selection of Rubio as per their fifth pick back in the 2009 draft. Rubio now 20 has played the previous two seasons in Spain probably because he personally felt that he wasn’t quite ready for the NBA and also because the buyout price of the Spanish league he plays for is $6 million plus which was something he couldn’t pay from his own pocket.

The Timberwolves, Rubio and the Spanish team have now agreed to the required terms and will meet the 31st May deadline according to sources. However the deadline has passed around two weeks ago, but this is something that Barcelona, Rubio’s reps and the Timberwolves have refused to say anything about. Basketball odds

The move for Rubio over to the NBA could not have been possible had it not been for the chain of command in America which got him the approval. FC Barcelona had to then authorize his release from the Spanish League officials who later had to forward this approval over to the FIBA, the international basketball federation. However word was out that there could be no action taken until his season with FC  Barcelona concluded so the final process of approvals did not start until the team finished their championship run back Tuesday night. The last step is a letter from the FIBA and was awaited by the NBA commissioner David Stern when he got to the office yesterday morning. Basketball betting lines

Rubio has a great future in the NBA and has been compared by some to NBA legend Pete Maravich primarily because of his superior ball handling capabilities and his physical resemblance. He is 6 foot 4 and weighs 190 pounds.
