The best way to kick off the season is with a win. Well, the Tigers can say they have, as they beat the Mississippi team on Thursday night. The game was a perfect example of just how good college football can be. It ended 17-14 with some impressive passing from Newton that resulted in two touchdowns. With such an exciting start to the season, there is nowhere to go but up. The Tigers appeared composed, collected and focused on the field. Regardless what happened, they kept on going. Their perseverance ended with victory. Scores.

In football, being ahead of the game is key. Thinking three plays down the line, figuring out who to pass to and when and what to do when you are being rushed is all vital, and all needs to happen at simultaneously. Cameron Newton, a 6’6” 250 pound junior, was able to handle it that on Thursday. He completed a few very important passes and a number of impressive runs to nail a total of 206 yards offense against the Mississippi team. Las Vegas odds.

He completed 11 of 19 passes for 136 yards, the two touchdowns and one interception and ran for 70 yards on 18 carries in the SEC opener for both teams. A very responsive and supportive team backed him up. After making a huge rush at the start, and being up 17-7, the Tigers had to lean on their defense to pull out the hard-fought victory. It was a superb showing for the team. The Tigers demonstrated that they are competent in all aspects of the game, and that they are ready for the rest of the season. In the second half, Mississippi State pulled to 17-14 on Vick Ballard’s 1-yard run midway through the third quarter. All of this happened after grinding through a 12-play, 63-yard drive. Still, the Tigers shut them down after that, and it was all over. Vegas odds.
