The Rays, who recently took over the AL-East, came up dry against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. The Twins were playing very well, but it was a tight game that went to extra innings. It ended 2-1 after 13 innings; these two teams are so evenly matched, it could have gone on for many more.

The Twins are a very strong team. They currently rank 2nd in the AL-Central, and are said to be of the same caliber as the Rays. They played their strengths, good pitching and solid hitting, but the Rays countered at every turn. It was much the same for the Rays, they too played well, but the Twins shut them down just the same.

Finally, when everyone was extremely exhausted, Delmon Young came through and put the Rays away with an RBI single in the 13th inning. Both teams had been throwing smoke all game long; the batters were having a hard time getting anything to connect.  It looked like the game was going to be a shutout, but the Rays tied it in the ninth with a single by Evan Longoria.

The game went to extra innings, and the Twins came alive. They have had some great games throughout the season, and this was merely another, highlighted by some strong plays. Both of these teams are amongst the top few in their respective divisions, and will be making strong cases for themselves once the playoffs come around. Some go so far as to say that they are playing well enough to make an appearance in the World Series.

Everything from here on out will come down to who can maintain the best record. The Twins will take the leading position in the Central if they are able to knock out the White Sox.  They are only 1.5 games behind, so that could happen pretty quick.  Be sure and follow all the action at, home of the best sports betting data around.
