Diego Forlan was the hero of the day as he scored twice as it was Uruguay who won the Copa America for a record of 15th time after they beat Paraguay a good 3-0 on Sunday. This was a comprehensive win as Luis Suarez also managed to score for Uruguay which was followed up from a semifinal appearance back in 2010’s World Cup as they won the South America championship after they did the first time in 1995. Suarez said “We played as a group,” after being selected the best player of the tournament he said “I think when groups are united like this, everyone together and going for the same thing, you can get things done.”
Uruguay has a population of around 3.5 million people which is roughly around the same population of Connecticut and is the smallest population of all the teams in the tournament. In the quarterfinals of Copa both Brazil and Argentina were upset. Uruguay managed to oust Argentina on the penalties as Paraguay had eliminated Brazil in the shootout. Uruguay has been the clear favorite as they went into the final and wrapped up the tournament which was filled with surprises. Both Argentina and Brazil have been sent home early but it is Venezuela which reached in the third place match on Saturday prior to losing to Peru 4-1. Both of these countries have been the weakest in these regional tournaments in recent years but they look to have become formidable players in the World Cup qualifying games.

Suarez had given Uruguay the lead in the match which they dominated during the opening minutes. Receiving a pass in the area, Dario Veron the Liverpool forward had deflected from the left footed shot he got off the far post right behind Justo Villar the goalkeeper.
