WILLIAMS COULD JOIN THE NEW HEAD COACH JEFF FISHER

New coach Jeff Fisher and the St. Louis Rams get reached contract on a five-year commitment, a league source asserted.

Fisher will sign the deal Tuesday, according to the resource.

Though the Rams hadn’t confirmed the admission, Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma tweeted “Gregg Williams is a good coach; I only hope him luck in St Louis.”

As for the Rams’ offensive coordinator, a team source declared that Fisher will interview former Raiders coach Hue Jackson on Wednesday.

Williams was in the last year of his agreement and became obtainable after the Saints ‘ 36-32 playoff defeat to the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday.

Williams has called Fisher one of his closest friends in the training business. They were together in Tennessee from 1994-2000.

Williams has become renowned for coming following opposing quarterbacks with abandon. The Saints sent five or more pass-rushers 51.1 % of the time in 2011, A lot in the NFL. The percentage was a league-leading 49.5 in 2010 and a runnerup 48.2 in 2009.

Williams was Fisher’s defensive coordinator with the Tennessee Titans from 1997-2000 prior to he became the Buffalo Bills ‘ head coach in 2001.

Jackson has received a robust acceptance from Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, who has served on the league’s contest council with Fisher.

Packers quarterback coach Tom Clements is also on Fisher’s list of offensive coordinator applicants but Fisher will re-evaluate his list after interviewing Jackson, a staff source added.

Fisher sat out final season after 17 years with the Titans. Fisher was the best coaching applicant this offseason and picked St. Louis; 2-14 last year and with only Fifteen wins the last five years, over Miami.

St. Louis has the second pick in the draft, and is picking first or 2nd for the fourth time in five years. Fisher replaces Steve Spagnuolo, who was 10-38 in 3 seasons, and the Rams too are looking for a managing director to replace Billy Devaney.

Former Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo and Dolphins defensive coordinators Mike Nolan both are on New Orleans ‘ short directory of defensive coordinator candidates to replace Williams, the resources said.

Spagnulo has drawn interest from Philadelphia, Atlanta and New Orleans, and just might be the most desired coordinator on
the marketplace. Nolan also could have prospects in Atlanta and Minnesota as well as New Orleans.
