PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Jeff Reed kicked a 43-yard field goal as time expired to give the Pittsburgh Steelers a 19-16 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Thursday in the preseason finale for both teams. Reed kicked field goals of 41, 49, 41 and 43 yards for the Steelers (3-1). His game-winner came after Brett Basnez hit Chris Hannon with a 29-yard scoring strike to tie the game with two minutes left for the Panthers (2-2). Dennis Dixon then drove the Steelers down the field, setting up Reed's game-winning kick. Pittsburgh starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was given the night off, with Byron Leftwich and Dixon sharing the duties. Panthers quarterback Matt Moore was 15-of-27 for 164 yards before leaving the game with a leg injury. |
