Campbell leads Austin Peay past E. Illinois 71-64
AUSTIN PEAY 71, EASTRN ILLINOIS 64 CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) -- Anthony Campbell hit five 3-pointers and scored 24 points as Austin Peay snapped an eight-game losing streak, beating Eastern Illinois 71-64 Thursday night. The Governors (6-20, 2-10 Ohio Valley), who had lost 16 of their past 17 games, also got 14 points and 10 rebounds from Chris Horton. Morris Woods scored 24 points and Alex Austin had 20 for Eastern Illinois (7-19, 4-9). Austin Peay led 28-18 at halftime and opened the second half with nine straight points on a layup by Will Triggs, two baskets from Horton and a 3-pointer by Campbell. The Governors extended the lead to 46-24 after back-to-back 3s by Campbell and Jeremy Purvis with 13:08 remaining. Campbell was 5 for 7 on 3-point attempts, helping Austin Peay go 9 for 17 beyond the arc. A 13-2 run brought the Panthers within 61-55 with 1:05 left, but the Governors hit 10 of 12 free throws the rest of the way. |
