Deposits and Cashouts
Select the ‘Deposit’ button in the top-right corner of the app or browser to fund your account. DraftKings has done well to offer plenty of deposit and withdrawal methods. While available choices in each state may vary, common examples include:
- Credit or Debit Cards (typically Visa/MasterCard)
- Online Banking Transfers
- Wire Transfers
- Play+ Prepaid Card
- PayNearMe (available at 7Eleven, CVS, Family Dollar, and other retail stores)
It’s also possible to fund your account in-person. In most states DraftKings has a retail sportsbook partnership with a local casino where money can be deposited and withdrawn directly at the cage. Paper checks are usually available as a withdrawal method, too.
Load up the DraftKings cashier in your state to see what options are available for you. The entire process is largely painless, and it’s always a comfort to know that you have complete access to your online funds.
Placing Your Bet
Once you’ve pulled up the sportsbook, you’re only a few clicks from placing a bet. Find the game or event you’re interested in wagering on, and you simply have to click on the side you want. Spreads, totals, and moneyline wagers are typically the first bets shown, though more options are available by clicking on the event itself.
After making a pick it will be automatically added to your bet slip where you can enter the amount you desire to bet, and then you’ll be presented with an option to finalize it. It’s easy to add multiple bets to a ticket to create parlays and round robins.
General DraftKings Sportsbook Information and Active States
DraftKings first entered the world of sports betting in August 2018 in New Jersey, the first U.S. state to legalize online wagering. Its first retail sportsbook, also in NJ, followed just a few months later at the Resorts Casino in Atlantic City. Since then, DraftKings has established a prominent, ever-expanding presence throughout the country, including Pennsylvania, Indiana, West Virginia, and many more.
In November 2019 DraftKings was selected to be the sole sports betting operator in New Hampshire. By agreeing to a near 50/50 split of revenue it was able to secure a sports betting monopoly in the Granite State, and will eventually operate at least four retail sportsbooks in addition to its mobile app. DraftKings Sportsbook is currently active in the following states:

Notable State Details
When betting in a new state, it’s always beneficial to read the rules and regulations that apply. There may be small differences, like an inability to wager on in-state collegiate athletics, that may impact your wagers. While the DraftKings Sportsbook product is largely consistent across its markets, there are some notable differences:
The DraftKings sign-up bonus is completely different in New Hampshire. Operating under its exclusive partnership with the NH Lottery and in accordance with state laws, the current welcome offer is just a $25 risk-free bet. It’s not the best, but in New Hampshire, it’s the only game in town. We’ll cross our fingers that terms improve in the future.
In addition, you only have to be 18 years old to bet on sports in New Hampshire. Generally speaking, 21 is the industry standard across the country.
When Iowa went live with sports betting in 2019, there was an in-person registration requirement, but thankfully that expired on January 1, 2021. Registration can be done from anywhere with an internet connection via your computer or mobile device and start betting right away.
Betting wise, sportsbooks are allowed to spread just about everything in Illinois with the exception of in-state collegiate sports.
Illinois casino owners weren’t pleased with DraftKings’ DFS operations within the state, believing it constituted unapproved gambling. As a result, both DraftKings and FanDuel were placed in a penalty box of sorts that was intended to keep them out for up to 18 months. It didn’t work.
DraftKings partnered with the Casino Queen East St. Louis and was the second online sportsbook to launch in the state of Illinois. Per state law, you must register in-person at the DraftKings at Casino Queen casino before betting online.
DraftKings operates its online sportsbook in Colorado on one of the Twin River Worldwide Holdings licenses. It is also bringing a state of the art retail betting facility to the Mardi Gras Casino in Black Hawk, though the grand opening has been delayed due to COVID-19. Colorado is among the most liberal betting markets in the country, with more than 1,000 potential bet available.
Tennessee online sports betting officially got underway on November 1, 2020. As usual, DraftKings was ready and accepting bets on day 1 for the industry. Since Tennessee only approved online sports betting, the company has no casino or licensing partner in the state.
You can bet on pretty much all sports, including college athletics in Tennessee. College player props are off the table, however.
DraftKings is now accepting legal sports wagers in the state of Michigan. The Bay Mills Indian Community is the company’s licensing partner, with physical tie-ins to the Bay Mills Resort and the Kings Club Casino. DK was among the first crop of online sportsbooks to launch in the state, accepting bets on January 22, 2021.
DraftKings began accepting legal online sports bets in Virginia on January 24, 2021. By and large DraftKings Sportsbook VA looks very similar to the company’s outfit in other states. Virginia does not allow users to wager on in-state college teams. For example, you can’t wager on the Cavaliers to win the NCAA basketball tournament. You can bet on other non-VA based college teams, though.
Online Wagering: Browser vs. App
DraftKings has done an excellent job of creating a user-friendly online experience for all devices. Whether you want to bet from a computer via web browser, or from a phone or tablet using the mobile app, you’ll receive consistency across the board. Betting markets and current odds are clearly displayed, and selecting them for a wager can be done with a few taps of a finger. The client does a good job of showing both live and prominent upcoming events so that there’s no issue finding the event you want.
The iOS app can be found within the app store, while Android users can download straight from the DraftKings website. DraftKings also offers a convenient option to enter your mobile phone number and they will text you a download link for the app.

Additionally, DraftKings allows customers to set deposit and wagering limits along with time limits so people can control how much they wager. Self-exclusion is also available for those who need to cut themselves off from gaming. Sports betting is meant to be a type of entertainment, and DraftKings takes its commitment to responsible gaming seriously.
Is DraftKings the best sportsbook in the industry?
One could easily make the argument that DraftKings is the best sportsbook out there right now. It is in constant competition with FanDuel for the top spot in most states in which both operate, and its available sports, banking options, ease of use, and other intangibles put it at the top of any sportsbook review ranking. So, yes, DraftKings is one of the best sportsbooks in the industry.
