State-to-State Details

In the post-PASPA world, each state is now able to independently pursue sports betting under its own terms. While operators may strive to create consistency in their products, sometimes state legislation can cause minor differences to arise in each market. While details like tax rates and licenses fees are always different, we’ll focus here on bettor-specific items that could potentially impact your experience, or the wagers you can make.

New Jersey

In New Jersey you’re not currently allowed to bet on any sort of collegiate sporting event that either takes place within, or where one of the teams is based in the state. For example, you can’t bet on Rutgers sports in any capacity since they’re a NJ college. Similarly, if there’s a major college tournament being hosted in NJ, or a bowl game at MetLife stadium, it’s unfortunately not available to bet on.

Pennsylvania

Unlike New Jersey, the only restriction in Pennsylvania regarding college sports relates to individual player props. Another notable exception in PA has to do with non-athletic events, which sportsbooks aren’t able to offer. If the bet isn’t directly related to an athlete, it’s out. No wagers on the Oscars, length of the national anthem, etc. Fortunately coin flips, since they’re called by a participating athlete, are fair game.

Colorado

Colorado is a pretty wide open sports betting market. You can make a lot of different bets, on a lot of different sports and events. FOX Bet is partnered in the state with the Lady Luck Casino in Black Hawk.

Michigan

FOX Bet and The Stars Group launched all three of its iGaming platforms in the state of Michigan on January 29, 2021. This includes FOX Bet (sports), PokerStars Casino (casino), and PokerStars (poker). FOX is available in the state through a partnership agreement with the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, and their affiliated Odawa Casinos.

Betting With a Browser vs. Mobile App

FOX Bet offers a solid mobile experience in each state. Optimized for the small-screen, its app maintains the same structure and theme that you’ll find on its browser-based book. If you know one, you’ll feel right at home with the other. Both use a bar along the top of the screen for navigation, which includes available betting markets. Just below the top bar there are separate tabs for ‘Popular’, ‘Promotions’, and ‘Results’, that you can easily bounce back and forth between.

When using a browser, after you select the bet of your choosing you’ll see it pop up on the right side of your screen on your bet slip. However, there’s a slight difference on mobile devices. Within the app, after selecting a wager you’ll see a blue ticket in the top right corner highlight with a little red number next to it. In order to actually view the bet slip you need to click on the illuminated ticket.

Overall, it’s a useful mobile app that allows bettors to conduct all of their wagers, casino included, efficiently from one place.
