Justin “STLCardinals84” Van Zuiden is a lead DFS and golf betting analyst for RotoGrinders and ScoresAndOdds. In this week’s preview, he will break down his favorite PGA outright bets, top-10 picks, and longshots for the 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson.

Welcome back to the weekly golf betting roundup article! We have a surprisingly strong field assembled the week before a major championship, as a lot of golfers are looking to get a final tune up start in before next week’s big event at Southern Hills.

TPC Craig Ranch will be the host venue for this event for the second time. It is a long par 72 that can stretch to nearly 7,500 yards, but it did not offer much defense for the PGA Tour golfers a year ago. The cut line came in at a whopping six-under par, and we saw over 60 golfers finish the week in double figures under par. A birdie fest is in store, especially since winds are expected to be relatively mild after the first day of the tournament. Expect some birdies this week!

Let’s try to find some winning picks!

Top Outright Bets — AT&T Byron Nelson

Will Zalatoris to win (+2200 on BetRivers) – I won’t fault anyone for going with Scottie Scheffler as the top option this week. After all, he seems to win every time he tees it up these days. He can’t keep up this torrid pace forever, though (unless he’s turning into prime Tiger Woods). For my money, I’ll side with Zalatoris at longer odds. He has now made the cut in six straight starts with three top six finishes during that stretch. He’s a local native who has played TPC Craig Ranch more than most, and he finished T-17 here last year. His game fits the course perfectly, as he can make birdies in bunches and is plenty long off the tee. Everything lines up for that potential first win to happen here. We know the tee to green game will be there — it’s simply a matter of whether or not he can make enough six-foot putts.

Jhonnatan Vegas to win (+5500 on DraftKings) – There was no questioning the fact that Jhonnatan Vegas was a great fit for TPC Potomac last week, but many bettors stayed away from him due to concerns over a wrist injury that he suffered a month ago. He showed no ill effects from that injury, though, as he dominated from tee to green on his way to one of the best ball-striking performances in the field. Over the last 36 rounds, he ranks seventh in this field in ball striking. He has top 20 finishes in each of his last three starts, and he’s a reasonable bet at very favorable odds here on DraftKings. He’s trending in the right direction.

Top-10 Predictions

Seamus Power Top 10 Finish (+550 on Bet365) – Remember when Seamus Power turned into a superstar over the winter? T11 at Mayakoba and T4 at The RSM Classic in November. T3 at the Sony Open in January. T14 at the American Express and T9 at Pebble Beach in February. Well, his form has finally cooled off with a pair of missed cuts in a row. That makes this an interesting time to potentially jump back aboard. The prices are more favorable in the betting markets now, and he’s made a career out of playing well on easier courses. I’m in for a top ten bet here.

Lanto Griffin Top 10 Finish (+600 on FanDuel) – Griffin went through a rough patch over the winter and early spring, but he has rediscovered his form again of late. Griffin has posted fantastic Sunday rounds in each of his last two tournaments, climbing up the leaderboard late in both for finishes of 15th and 6th. He’s still +600 for a top ten on FanDuel, and that’s simply a fantastic line given his improving form.

Long Shots and Other Bets

Long Shots – It would not surprise me at all if we see some long shots contend in this tournament. When birdie fests come into play, there are often long shot winners. That is because it can sometimes become a putting contest whereby the golfers that happen to be hot with the flat stick rise up the leaderboard. DraftKings has some favorable long shot odds this week, with Tom Hoge and Patton Kizzire standing out as my favorite potential options. Both sit around 100-to-1 as of the time I am writing this.

Alex Noren over Scott Stallings head-to-head (-132 on BetRivers) – This was an easy click for me. Noren has been one of the more consistent, underappreciated golfers on the PGA Tour over the past year, while Stallings has been trending in the wrong direction. Stallings has been missing cuts on courses that suit his game well lately. I am hoping this is a stress free win with a made cut for Noren and a missed weekend for Stallings. Even if it’s not that stress free, Noren is the play in this head to head matchup.

Good luck this week everyone! Let’s win some money!
