We have a full 15-game schedule in Major League baseball today. The Cubs and Cardinals got us started with an afternoon matchup, while everything else will be later on this evening.

The weather across the country looks good with no risks of delays or postponements.

As far as today’s MLB strikeout props go, we’ll get started in Arlington where the Texas Rangers take on the Seattle Mariners.

Logan Gilbert Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-148)

Logan Gilbert will take the mound for his eleventh start of the season as he looks to continue his excellent sophomore season.

Gilbert has pitched to a 2.29 ERA through his first ten starts. He has made it through 7 innings in each of his last three starts and has one of the longest leashes in baseball. He has thrown at least 100 pitches in half of his starts this year.

The strikeout rate for Gilbert sits at 25.4% and the walks are at 7.4%. He has recorded at least 6 strikeouts in five of his ten starts this year, and he gets a favorable matchup today.

The Rangers have struck out around league-average at 22.6% this year, but that number jumps to 23.2% when facing right-handed pitchers. Their projected lineup today has struck out 26.6% of the time versus righties this season.  They have been a below-average offense overall with a .299 wOBA and 97 wRC+.

Gilbert should see his typical allotment of 100+ pitches and has a good chance to pitch into the late innings. I like him to record over 5.5 strikeouts along the way.

Chad Kuhl Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-154)

We now shift our focus to the infamous Coors Field in Denver, where the Colorado Rockies host the Atlanta Braves. Chad Kuhl takes the mound for the Rockies in his tenth start of the season.

Kuhl has put together an above-average season with a 3.56 ERA. The strikeouts are a tick below average at 18.9% and the walks are up at 8.9%. Of note, only three of his nine starts so far this season have come at home in Coors Field. In those three starts, he has not recorded over 4.5 strikeouts in any of them. He failed to record a single strikeout in his last home start against San Francisco.

Today, he gets a matchup with the Braves who have struck out at the highest rate in the league. However, they are an above-average offense overall and they have a ton of power. The Braves’ .174 ISO ranks third in MLB, and they just exploded for 13 runs yesterday in their first trip to Coors this season.

I think the Braves can get to Kuhl and knock him out of this game early. He should stay under 4.5 strikeouts for the fourth time in four home starts.

Nathan Eovaldi Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-111)

Finally, we head out to Oakland where the Athletics take on the Boston Red Sox. Nathan Eovaldi takes the ball for the Red Sox in his eleventh start of the season.

Eovaldi is coming off a complete game performance against the Baltimore Orioles where he was up to 108 pitches. The start before that he struck out 11 Mariners in 101 pitches over 6.2 innings. He has rebounded nicely, to say the least, after a rough outing against Houston.

He owns a 3.77 ERA this season with an above-average strikeout rate of 25.1% and an elite walk rate of 3.8%. He has thrown at least 95 pitches in seven of his ten starts this season. He has also recorded at least 6 strikeouts in seven of his ten starts this year.

Today, he faces one of the worst offenses in baseball in one of the best pitcher’s parks in baseball. Oakland’s .272 wOBA ranks dead last in MLB, with their second-worst 81 wRC+ placing them 19% below league average. Run prevention should not be an issue for Eovaldi, and he should be able to work deep into the game.

I like him to dominate this Oakland lineup and go over 5.5 strikeouts today.

That will do it for today’s breakdown of the MLB slate. We were able to identify three pitcher’s strikeout props to target:
