Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady will tee off on Tuesday against Bryson DeChambeau and Aaron Rodgers at The Reserve at Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Mont. Here’s a look at The Match 4 odds, predictions, and golf betting picks.

Mickelson-Brady vs. DeChambeau-Rodgers Odds

Oddsmakers opened DeChambeau and Rodgers as heavy favorites to beat Mickelson and Brady. At one point, the pair were -190 to win (bet $190 to win $100), while Mickelson and Brady were +150 underdogs (bets $100 to win $150).

The price discrepancy may be enough to entice golf bettors to back Mickelson and Brady for the larger payout, but is that the wise thing to do?

Brady is the defending Super Bowl champ and Mickelson just became the oldest man to win a major championship in golf history, sure, but it’s DeChambeau and Rodgers who bring the better golf games.

DeChambeau missed the cut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, but he had been playing solid before his hiccup, which was preceded by the untimely departure of his caddie ahead of Round 1.

Rodgers meanwhile has stayed in the spotlight during the NFL offseason as he is currently holding out and demanding to be traded from the Green Bay Packers. It’s safe to say he’s had plenty of time to work on his handicap, which, according a 2019 interview, is roughly 3.5 when he’s playing a lot.

How much better is that than Brady’s? Well, Brady is reportedly an 8 handicap. He has even admitted to having lost to Rodgers on the golf course.

The Match 4 Format & Course

Mickelson, Brady, DeChambeau, and Rodgers will compete in a modified 18-hole alternate shot format. All four golfers will tee off on every hole, and then choose which shot to take from there as they begin alternating hitting the same ball until it is holed.

As for The Reserve at Moonlight Basin, an 8,000-yard Nicklaus-designed track in Big Sky, Mont., the advantage could go to either team.

As our US Bets’ Mike Seely points out, in this case it’s the underdogs have home course advantage.

“Brady and Mickelson both own offseason homes near The Reserve at Moonlight Basin, the Jack Nicklaus-designed course where The Match will be played. They golf a fair amount — sometimes together — at a private course on the grounds of The Yellowstone Club,” writes Mike Seely.

The question is, is it a big enough advantage to create value on betting on Mickelson-Brady. After all, Moonlight Basin is home to five par-5s, which should help DeChambeau & Rodgers if anyone.

The Match 4 Golf Betting Picks

I tend to stay away from heavy favorites in these types of matches, especially when there’s so much uncertainty, as there is with Rodgers and Brady. However, I’m going to do something gamblers are always told never to do: bet with my heart.

So where does my heart lie? With the greatest quarterback of all time.
